Furoshiki Shop
Furoshiki is a square piece of fabric, whose name literally means “cloth
for the bath.” It came into wide use in Edo period (1603-1868) in public
bathhouses for spreading on the floor while undressing and for wrapping
bathing articles. In other words, the furoshiki started out as the cloth
in which people carried their clothes and toiletries, but later it came
to be used to carry (or wrap) just about anything. Today furoshiki has
become the thing of the past, but not entirely. Furoshiki has largely been
replaced by modern handbags and has lost its popularity as a practical
everyday item, but it is making a comeback as an item which has cultural
(traditional) and aesthetic value. You can use it as a part of Asian-themed
art works (or simply as a wall hanging. You can frame it if you like )
or fashion accessory. Some people might use it as a wine holder, table
cloth or even drapes. Be creative and enjoy furoshiki life!
