It is safe to say that we have known no other everyday item that is as handy and versatile as tenugui is. Although everyday use of tenugui dropped significantly, Tenugui remains necessary part of matsuri (festival) costume. People wear them as headbands for absorbing perspiration. Also still today some shop owners and business firms distribute tenugui at their openings or simply as Thank-you gift. Tenugi now has more of symbolic and esthetic values (because of the various graphic designs) rather than practical values.
